British Artist & Filmmaker Alicia Sadler’s Love letter to Los Angeles
Writted by Alicia Sadler
Dear LA,
To the longest place I’ve yet to settle.
To the place that so far has felt the closest to home.
To the place that has held me when I’ve felt so alone
To the place, I found my chosen family
For that, I will be forever grateful.
And to the place that goes out of her way
To aid,
in making friends with the great unknown.
To the place that taught me what it means to live,
where dreams begin,
where the hustle is real,
beyond belief.
To the place that brings you to your knees,
challenges you so far from what you can see,
offers all the magic,
Demands humility.
If you know, you know;
if you don’t, you go.
You leave tail between the legs
with the hateLA creed.
To the place that welcomes all with open arms,
bedazzles you with all her charms.
Magnatises, the weird, the wonderful, warts and all,
so together we can all stand tall.
A mish-mash, an eclectic melting pot,
with tales that go on for forever.
And yet here I am ready to leave,
I think.
It’s been almost a decade,
and I am so far from where I arrived.
Deprived, maybe. Surprised, More so,
The veil thinner,
because thats California.
No where to hide from yourself.
You can try.
You can get lost in the nightlife,
the glitz the glamour,
hide any tremor from yourself in the socials of it all.
Be careful not to fall,
because it will be deeper than you ever imagined,
and harder than you could ever fathom.
However, when you decide to re-ermerge,
out the black hole splurge.
Regurgitated into something anew,
something cool,
something beyond imaginable.
You will look back with grace,
and love,
bow humbly to the skies above,
for LA,
and the fearless wrath she wraps you in
While sending you on your way
with your new life to begin.
All my love and infinite gratitude LA,
In my heart forever you have a place
Unconditional Love, in you I trust,
A
